WWE SummerSlam 2024 is set to take place on August 3, 2024, at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, OH, starting at 7 PM ET, with a pre-show at 5 PM ET. This marks the 37th event in SummerSlam history and the second time it will be held in Cleveland, the first being in 1996. The main event will feature Cody Rhodes defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa. The rivalry between Rhodes and The Bloodline has been intense, especially after Solo assumed leadership in Roman Reigns’ absence and attacked Rhodes following his title defense at Clash at the Castle. This match was set after Solo pinned Rhodes during a trios match at Money in the Bank, earning his title shot.
Another highly anticipated bout is the World Heavyweight Championship match between Damian Priest and Gunther. Gunther earned this opportunity by winning the King of the Ring 2024 tournament. The feud heated up when Gunther insulted Priest, calling him “street trash,” leading to physical confrontations on RAW. Priest’s stablemate, Finn Balor, got involved, further escalating tensions. The two powerhouses are set to clash in what promises to be a brutal encounter, with Gunther aiming to bring prestige to the title.
CM Punk and Drew McIntyre’s ongoing feud will also reach its climax at SummerSlam, with Seth Rollins serving as the special referee. The bad blood between Punk and McIntyre dates back to the Royal Rumble, where Punk was injured by McIntyre. This feud has seen several controversial moments, including McIntyre’s interference during Punk’s commentary duties and Punk’s role in costing McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship. The match at SummerSlam, which will have Rollins as a guest referee, promises to be a volatile encounter.
In addition to these main events, the WWE Women’s Championship will be defended by Bayley against Nia Jax, who earned her shot by winning the Queen of the Ring 2024 tournament. Their rivalry has been marked by physical confrontations, including Jax attacking Bayley during a promo segment and Bayley’s interference in Jax’s match against Michin. Moreover, LA Knight will face WWE United States Champion Logan Paul in a match that has been building up since Knight pinned Logan in a triple threat match.
