The 34th G1 Climax is reaching its climax with Night 18 set for August 17, 2024, at Ryōgoku Kokugikan in Sumida, Tokyo. The long journey to crown the Strongest of the Summer comes to a head this weekend at Ryogoku Sumo Hall. With the league phase of G1 Climax 34 concluded, the playoffs are set to begin on August 15, where the second and third point scorers in each block will battle for a spot in the Semifinals.
In the main event, Yota Tsuji and Konosuke Takeshita will face off after their respective wins over Jeff Cobb and Ren Narita in Hamamatsu. This matchup brings their G1 journey full circle, as they first clashed on the opening night in Takeshita’s hometown of Osaka, where he emerged victorious. Now, only one will continue on, with Tsuji having a spiritual home-field advantage as he returns to a place that shaped his determination to become a professional wrestler. Meanwhile, Great-O-Khan, after a rocky start in the tournament, ended on a high note with a victory over IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito. However, O-Khan faces a daunting task, needing to overcome past defeats to both Zack Sabre Jr. and Shingo Takagi—two men he’s never beaten—to advance to the finals on Sunday. For Takagi, confidence is high after recent victories, and a familiar opponent could be the key to securing a spot in the final showdown.
